The Formula Explained
The 2023-2024 school year in Ivory Coast brings anticipation regarding the orientation to the second grade. To better understand the process, let’s delve into the method of calculating the orientation average.
The Magic Formula
The formula is presented as follows:
- (Annual average in Math + BEPC score) × 2
- (Annual average in French Composition + BEPC score) × 2
- Annual average in Physics Chemistry + BEPC score
- [Annual average in English + BEPC score (oral + written): 2]
You add everything up and divide by 12.
Practical Case: Student YAO
Let’s take the example of a student YAO who obtained the following grades:
- Math: 12 at the BEPC and 14 as the annual average. Calculation: 12 + 14 = 26 × 2 = 52
- French Composition: 13 at the BEPC and 11 as the annual average. Calculation: 13 + 11 = 24 × 2 = 48
- Physics Chemistry: 10 at the BEPC and 12 as the annual average. Calculation: 10 + 12 = 22
- English: 11 in writing and 15 in oral at the BEPC. Calculation: 11 + 15 = 26 ÷ 2 = 13 (if he has 12 as the annual average in English, we do 12 + 13 = 25)
Adding it all up: 52 + 48 + 22 + 25 = 147.
Student YAO’s orientation average is therefore 12.25.
Once you have successfully calculated this average, all that’s left is to wait for the Ministry of National Education to announce the accepted average for orientation to the second grade.
Show patience; the next steps depend on the decisions of the ministry!
